Bear Grylls air rifles and pistols

We are now stocking the Bear Grylls range of airguns.

www.diffcal.co.uk for details.

Bear Grylls has already branded the Gerber range of knives, which were pretty good quality in the first place. He has now teamed up with Gamo airguns to produce some BG branded air rifles and a pistol. Here is a quick summary of what's now available in the UK. See our website for details. These are in stock now.

Gamo already have a repuation for producing well made budget airguns, (we stock their entire UK range) so it was interesting to see how these stacked up.

First up is the Pistol
http://www.adifferentcalibre.co.uk/new-air-pistols/bear-grylls-pistol-detail
This is essentially a Gamo P300 break barrel air pistol with orange detailing, the BG logo and a set of pellets and targets with it. This retails at £99 which is reasonable, however the standard gun on it's own has a rrp of £79.99. So you do pay more for the branding. This is a well built rugged gun, although it does have a 'plastic' feel overall. It shoots well and would make a good birthday or Christmas present for the younger shooter who likes the BG television series .

Next up is the Explorer .177 junior rifle
http://www.adifferentcalibre.co.uk/new-air-rifles/bear-grylls-explorer-junior-rifle-detail
This gun is based on the Junior Hunter rifle. The stock is stained wood. The main difference here is the orange colour (which actually looks okay), more chequering on the grips and a small scope + pellets and targets. Not forgetting the BG logo engraved on the rear of the stock. All of this for £114.99 is quite reasonable. It really does look different from the Junior Hunter (£89.99) This will appeal to juniors aged 7-13. If you prefer a more tactical looking rifle, Gamo also make the Delta Fox.

Finally the adult version, the 'Adventure' is an interesting combination of a 'barricade' styled stock in black and orange with a 'hornet' action. (at least that is what it looks like to us).
http://www.adifferentcalibre.co.uk/new-air-rifles/bear-grylls-adventure-air-rifle-detail
The stock is fully synthetic and is very well made just like the 'Varmint Barricade'. It doesn't come with a stock but has standard 9-11mm rails that will take most mounts (we reccomend a basic 4x32 scope for these at £20). The break barrel action is smooth and the trigger is okay for a cheap gun. The orange on the gun really stands out. (remember most quarry are colour blind anyway). This retails at £149.99 for the kit of gun, pellets and targets.

In summary; These are nice guns if you like the BG brand. There are other (cheaper) alternatives that these guns are based on so if the branding isn't important to you, there is always something available that is similar.  These are going to be more suited as gifts for the younger shooter or for yourself if you really like the BG brand. The quality of these guns is excellent for the price.

Night Ratting

More Rat shooting at the chicken coops last night with Graham and Tom.

Bit of a grainy picture as it was dark. Tom is using my Evanix Sniper Carbine, fitted with a BSA VC Silencer and BSA Essential scope. On top of this is a Nitesite Viper (Video to follow).
We do like the improvisation with the wheelbarrow!

A bit of rain never stops us and Graham was well prepared. He is using his tried and tested BSA superten. (The old version of the R-10 MK2 Supercarbine
Graham is now dubbed as the sniper gnome!

Cheap Air Rifles

The Hatsan Breaker 900X is a very popular air rifle nd only £99. We have a complete review here.
Hatsan Breaker 900X with Wooden stock. Only £99

Next at £99 is the BSA/Gamo Hornet.
http://www.adifferentcalibre.co.uk/new-air-rifles/gamo-hornet-detail

No sound moderator with this one, but it has a comfortable synthetic stock and is ideal for teenagers

On special at the moment we have some hard wearing Crosman guns.
www.adifferentcalibre.co.uk  These are a bit heavier than the Hornet or Breaker 900x and are better suited to adults. Some people like the feel of these due to the comfortable stocks. They are both really well made and both come with a basic scope.

After these we start to look at the Gamo range of guns (we stock them all!)
The Whisper X is the basic model with a nice pistol grip. This starts at only £139.
http://www.adifferentcalibre.co.uk/new-air-rifles/gamo-whisper-x-detail
If you want something in camo, Gamo also do the Camo Rocket IGT at £189 with scope.

This one has the IGT system which means instead of a spring inside, you get a gas ram which is better for consistant shots.

Pistols are another matter altogether, but there are some good deals on at the moment from only £75!

Samyang Sumatra Stinger Air Rifle

In stock now. www.diffcal.co.uk

The Sumatra Stinger has been around for a while in the UK now. All reports that we have had indicate that it is reliable and very accurate.

There are 3 types to choose from. Rifle, Carbine and 500cc Rifle. All of these can be got in a variety of calibres .177, .22, and now in .25. These are all available in UK legal 12ftlbs or if you have a firearms license you can get them 'FAC' tuned. So far we have found that the .22 and bigger .25 have been the most popular.

The engraving work might not be to everyones taste, and it is unusual to have a hunting gun in the UK with this much 'bling'. The underlever action is amazing, really smooth and easy to use. It will take an additional silencer if you require it, this has a 10mm fitting rather than the standard UNF thread but adaptors are available, or there is one specific to the gun which works great.

The 6 shot magazine is easy to load, with pellets simply dropping in to it backwards. The open sights are a bit on the clunky side and you will probably want to fit a scope to it but they are functional and we have still had good groupings at 30 yards with them.

You will notice from the photo below that the stock is adjustable. There was a rumour that this feature was to be discontinued, however this is not true and all versions have the adjustable cheek piece stock.

We like this rifle so much that Stuart has had one of the 500cc rifles in .25cal for himself! The heavy .25 pellets make a very satisfying thump and at 12ftlbs is fine out to 40 yards+
