These air rifles are full power spring and are still only £99. See here for a full review.
We are more than happy to come out with customers and let them have a go with some of our own kit such as our nitesite vipers and lamps etc.
As night fell, we switched to lamps and nitesites.
The geese were not amused!
I'm still using my Evanix sniper carbine with a Nitesite viper and Graham on his classic BSA superten. Graham had a go with the JSB jumbo Straton pellets tonight. Impressed with them, he managed to take out a pigeon on the roof with his first shot of the night... Makes a change for 'sniper gnome' to hit anything! Must be the change of ammo.
We were surprised at quickly it got cold tonight... Winter is on its way I think.
Out with a couple of customers on their farm last night. Air rifles for rats and rabbits, but a muntjack deer decided to follow us!
It would have been a 20yard perfect heart and lung shot had we had an appropriate rifle with us. .22 sub 12ftlbs airguns are not good enough (or legal) to take deer down humanely).
Just popped round to help out a customers (well Ash the garden spider) to help zero and set up his rifle. Gamo whisper fusion with an led tracer lamp mounted on it. He appears to be fairly pleased with it!
Just back in from a nights ratting. They are still really hard to hit, impossible to bait with all the food our 'chicken lady' scatters around the place. Out using an Evanix sniper carbine with a Nitesite Viper and a BSA superten with a tracer led gun lamp.
Just 3 hits tonight... And the hedgehogs are back again. (We don't shoot them!)
Note that the photos were taken by holding my iphone up to the nitesite screen! The picture quality is actually much better. If you want to have a play with a nitesite, get in touch at info@adifferentcalibre.co.uk, we are quite happy to come out shooting with you and let you have a go with one.
"Back in my day" is a comment we often hear in our gun shop. Air gun technology has come a long way, even in just the past couple of years with electronic triggers and regulators.
There is still a market however for the old second hand guns for those that like a bit of nostalgia.
Just in to the shop is a Cadet Major. This is in excellent condition for it's age and we have appraised it as being worth around £170 when compare to others on the market.
With old guns like this, collectors will look for the original markings on both the barrel and stock, any chips or scratches and any discoloration to the wood. Quite often we find that the sights on old guns are broken off and this lowers the value considerably.
Now here's why I am writing this...... These guns are fine for collectors, a bit of nostalgia etc. However the customers that tell us they are after a 'cheap' second hand gun are barking up the wrong tree.
If you want a functional gun for shooting vermin (or targets) it is best to buy a new one. Prices these days start at £99 for a 'full power' air rifle which is far cheaper than the second hand ones. Included in these are the Hatsan Breaker and the BSA Hornet. If you are buying a spring gun second hand the power will have dropped considerably (from 12ftlbs to around 3-4ftlbs in some cases!) A new spring will set you back around £40 and if you need a gunsmith to do the work, they aren't exactly cheap.
Our advice is to only have an old gun fixed up if it is in really good condition (i.e. just the spring needs doing) or if it has sentimental value (Grandad's gun etc). If it's a reliable gun you are after you really are better off buying something new.
Having said that... if you are after an old school gun, come and have a look. We have most things from most eras in stock. Including pre-war BSA No. 1 air rifles.

If you have bought an air rifle to control rats, squirrels, rabbits
or pigeons but feel you need some additional help, our team are more
than happy to come out with you (provided you have permission to shoot
on the land).
Our working group consists of both staff and experienced customers
(all who hold insurance) that can help you zero your rifle and give
pointers on baiting and ranging issues. There is no charge for this
service as shooting is also our hobby, and we are always looking for new
places to shoot. In addition to this we can let you have a go with some
of our own 'toys' such as night vision scopes or our own rifles.
We are
also able to have new members join the group once we have been out
shooting with them and checked their insurance. (we recommend BASC insurance)
We are prepared to carry pest control on farms and commercial
premises if required. This includes specialist deer and fox control.
Our current team consists not only of air-gunners, but deer
specialists, pigeon control with shotguns, ferret handlers and working
terrier dog teams.
If you are interested in having our team join you on a shoot, please send an email to info@adifferentcalibre.co.uk
Please note that this is an informal group and not for commercial
purposes. Individuals must have their own liability insurance cover in
place.
Out rabbit shooting last night with a few local farmers. Testing out the Evanix GTL480 semi auto and the Sniper Carbine as alternatives to their Gamo Fusion rifles (Somewhat of a price difference). It's surprising how many are moving away from noisy shotguns now that air rifle technology is so good.
Joe posing in the barn.
A couple of decent sized rabbits in the bag for tomorrow's stew!
Using a Nitesite viper to spot the bunnies. Everyone is really impressed with the Nitesite setup.
A few incidents whilst out.... A cat decided to follow us around, we are sure she scared off a lot of quarry. Lucky we can tell the difference between her and a rabbit with the night vision setup.
Resting your gun on a post that has an electric fence attached is never a good thing; it seems my rifle will conduct enough to zap me!!!
Finally.....
Ash thinks he is some sort of 1930's gangster!
Not exactly a Tommy gun!
This is a 'barn' find and we couldn't resist getting a few Al Capone gangster photos.
This iconic Colt has now been manufactured as a high quality Single
Action CO2 powered air gun. It operates and cocks identically to the original, apart from the recoil and
noise, though powered by a gas cartridge each cartridge will last
approximately for 100 rounds.
Umarex has worked closely with the US
Marshals Museum at Fort Smith Arkansas to produce this accurate
representation of the Colt 1873 Peacemaker. The only real difference in looks is the way there is a gap between the hammer and the main body. This is to allow the firing pin mechanism to function. It's not really noticeable unless you are really familiar with the original though.
There are 3 models available in the U.K. The first shown above is the 'blued' version, an authentic looking 'brand new' gun as they would have looked like in 1873.
The one below is the 'antique' version, for those that like their guns to look a bit aged.
The supplied 'bullets' are loaded with .177 metal bbs and load into the gun just like the original. The CO2 cartridge is held in the handle like most air pistols and is really discreet.
The Nickel version is solidly built.
Loading is authentic, the gun even has an ejector rod to push the used cartridges out.
It uses .177 metal BBs as ammo. These aren't the most accurate of things, but then neither was the real gun! The gun is all metal construction and has a really hefty feel to it. Ideal for plinking.
We have all 3 of these in stock priced at £169.
The gun comes in a cardboard box, but Umarex have printed it up much like the original wooden box would have been.
If you want the complete collection of 'cowboy' guns we also have the Sheridan under-lever .177 metal BB gun in stock at only £55. Not the most accurate, but a lot of fun!
