Staff out ratting

Finally managed to get more of the team out shooting rats.

The air rifle of choice (and they can borrow any of our hire guns) is the BSA R-10 SE. This is the very latest model from the British manufacturer and copes well with both target and pest shooting. 

Using Predator Polymag pellets in .22 we were able to clear 15 more rats from the chicken coops.

Night shooting is something they aren't used to having really only been on our shooting range. We fitted one of the guns with a Tracer LED 200 and red filter whilst the other had a Nitesite viper night vision camera attached. 

As always there is much wildlife around including our friendly fat hedgehog who really isn't bothered by us being there.

It's really good to see our team enjoying themselves and getting some experience with outdoor shooting. 

First month

We have been fully open now for a month and we have to say a big thank you for all the support we have had with our new shooting range and shop.

Having now increased the variety of air rifles we have something to suit all budgets and shooting disciplines.

The range has been a big success with over 800 different people coming in to have a go, we even have some regulars! 

Not to sit back, we will be further increasing the air pistol selection, adding even more to the hire wall and fun competitions will be starting soon.

Gamo coyote ratting

Hit 17 rats last night between the 3 of us using the Gamo Coyote tactical air rifle in .22. We have been using Predator Polymag pellets as they really drop vermin!

The Coyote has been around for a while now, and we have been using them on our shooting range a fair bit. The action is exactly the same as the BSA R-10/Ultra (BSA are owned by Gamo) and it works very smoothly.
The gun takes standard BSA 10 shot magazines and this particular one is fitted with a BSA Essential 3-9x50 scope and a BSA VC silencer.
I particuarly like the adjustable cheek piece on the stock, the wooden version not having this.

The chicken coop has never been more rat free!

New guns

We are still stocking up on new air guns, soon we hope to have one of the largest selections in the UK available. Most of them are also available to hire on the indoor shooting range as well.

This week's new arrivals:

HW97 Blue laminate

 This is an underlever spring rifle from Weihrauch. It is the successor to the popular HW77 model. Made in Germany, this underlever airgun has all the power and accuracy you'll need to shoot field target or knock down metallic silhouettes (.177 recommended) or hunt small critters and eliminate those pesky rodents around your garden (.22 highly recommended). 
We especially like the blue laminate stock.

Remmington 'Thunder'

The Thunderceptor is a bit more refined with an adjustable stock.

Both feature a powerful Gas Ram system at its heart to provide consistent and accurate power.

The sculptured synthetic polymer stock is both comfortable, and well balanced to ensure a great shooting experience.

The barrel is sleeved with a built in baffle design to reduce the muzzle report considerably, making it ideal for hunting and target shooting, whilst maintaining accuracy. 
A two stage trigger is also fitted to customize the rifle to the individual shooter.

 This is an exceptionally well made gun and the front end has a screw thread 1/2" UNF to take a silencer. Whilst this does make the gun fairly lengthy, it is worth it. We have both of these to try out on the shooting range.

Back in stock on the Pre-charges is the Hatsan Galatian.
This (after a long wait) is back in at the special price of only £399!

With so many new guns in the shop, you really are spoilt for choice! Lots more coming in soon, including some Air Arms target rifles.

Shooting centre

The shop, range and public lounge are now all fully open. The range is up to 30 yards in length and is suitable for all air rifles under 12ftlbs. The new plate targets are now up for rapid fire pistol shooting as well.
The shop is now pretty much fully stocked with new guns and accessories, come and have a look.

Hire guns

Our new shooting range is proving to be very popular. We have a huge selection of guns you can hire to try out. Most ranges just have one model available but we like our customers to be able to try out lots of different ones. The more expensive target rifles are also available such as the Air Arms FTP900 fitted with an MTC silver genesis (around £2000 worth of kit!)

We have managed to get a lot of our more popular guns on our hire wall with break barrels at £5 a session and pre-charge at £8. Range fees start from £10 an hour. Children are welcome when accompanied by an adult and we have a good selection of junior guns. 

We have the following guns to hire with more being added all the time. With such a large variety of airguns in the shop we can't have them all for hire, but there are enough to get you started!

Unusual air rifles

We quite often get some unusual looking air guns come into the shop, usually in the guise of limited editions or complete custom jobs.

Today the latest offering from Beeman airguns arrived. 

Both of these good looking air rifles come in .177 or .22 calibre and you get choice of wood or synthetic. The unusual factor is that they are double barrelled! 

At first glance you might think that these fire one shot after the other, but they actually put out 2 pellets at once!

They are uk legal and will appeal to the shooter who likes to plink at targets or use something for short range pest control. We can't see them being used for precision shooting but they look a lot of fun to add to the collection. 

Both are in stock now priced at £199 for the synthetic and £169 for the wood. 

Night life

Always nice to see some wildlife out at night when on the pest control.

Headed over to my chicken coops this evening after a busy day at work on the shooting range to have a go at the rats. Tonight's bag was completely zero though! 

Sitting waiting for something to come out as it got dark, something nearby was snuggling in the overgrown meadow. My Nitesite viper picked up the tell tale glow of a pair of eyes... Zooming in ready to hit my first tat of the evening I quickly realised it was a large hedgehog heading over to my bait pile. 

Leave it alone and see if anything legitimate to shoot comes out with him.....

After an hour of waiting nothing else had emerged. 

A large rat then came into my field of view... Finally I readied myself to take a shot when it came back (as they always do) but this was not to happen tonight

Not my picture but you get the idea. A monster sized tawny owl started swooping in on the coop... Shooting over for the night then, I just hope it doesn't take a fancy to my chickens! .... Speaking of which I've got too many cockerels if anyone wants one (as a pet not to go in the pot!)
